Benjamin Franklin arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the age of 17, on this day in 1723. Best known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, Franklin was a leading author, printer, political theorist, politician, postmaster, scientist, musician, inventor, satirist, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat. A 20 foot high marble statue, sculpted by James Earle Fraser, is the centerpiece of the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Learn more:
