Wilbur Wright piloted the Wright Flyer III in a flight of 24 miles in 39 minutes, a world record that stood until 1908, on this day in 1905. Its design was modified, and parts for the Wright Flyer II were used in its construction, achieving much greater performance than Flyers I and II. The Wright Flyer III is on display at the Dayton History at Carillon Park. Learn more:
