Dan Grigore

born August 6, 1943, Bucharest

Dan Grigore is a Romanian classical pianist, teacher and composer, one of the leading Romanian pianists of the second half of the twentieth century, together with Valentin Gheorghiu and Radu Lupu.

He started singing piano at 3 years and had renowned teachers, as Florica Musicescu, Mihail Jora, Tatiana Kravcenko (Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg), but especially Cella Delavrancea, his late mentor and friend.

Because of his refusal to publicly support Nicolae Ceausescu, Grigore is sidelined and Romanian state forbids him to travel abroad for international concerts.

Grigore’s wide repertoire includes many Romantic composers such as Schumann, Grieg, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, in addition to music by Beethoven.
