Cleopatra VII Philopator, the last ruler of the Egyptian Ptolemaic dynasty, commits suicide, allegedly by means of an asp bite
12 August 30 BC
Cleopatra was the last active pharaoh of Ptolemaic Egypt, only shortly survived by her son, Caesarion as pharaoh. After her reign, Egypt became a province of the then-recently established Roman Empire.
The ancient sources, particularly the Roman ones, are in general agreement that Cleopatra killed herself by inducing an Egyptian cobra to bite her.
