Lela Dowling (born 31 December 1956, USA) is an artist, illustrator, and cartoonist.

She was active in science-fiction fandom and as a convention artist from the 1970s, typically drawing fantasy illustrations in pen and ink, pencil, and watercolors. She published in comic books in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Her earliest work was illustrations and pin-ups, with the occasional short story. She appeared in magazines such as “Epic Illustrated” and “Eclipse, the Magazine”. Most of her comics work was for Eclipse.

Dowling adapted ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ in the anthology series “The Dreamery” (1986–1989). She and Steve Gallacci provided the art on the main series in “Fusion” (1987–1989), while she and Ken Macklin co-created the hilarious back-up series ‘The Weasel Patrol’.

She drew a 1991 adaptation of Anne McCaffrey’s “Dragonflight” and she contributed a story to Phil Foglio’s humorous adult series “Xxxenophile” in 1993.

In addition to comic books, she produces limited-edition art prints, portfolios, and illustrated books, and has even done a weekly newspaper strip. She has worked commercially in computer character animation, toy and character design, storyboarding, and concept illustration.

She currently operates Skyland Gallery in Santa Cruz, California, with her husband and fellow artist Frank Cirocco.
