Actor Ray Milland was born Jan. 3, 1905, in Neath, Wales. He was a popular matinee idol in movies like The Major and the Minor (1942) until he proved his considerable acting chops in his Oscar-winning performance as an alcoholic writer in The Lost Weekend (1945). In his later career, he often played villains, most famously in director Alfred Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder (1954).
