In memoriam: Alan Freed

On January 20, 1965, ALAN FREED, the American DJ credited with coining the term ‘ROCK ‘N’ ROLL’ died from uraemia at the age of 42. Freed called himself the ‘father of rock and roll’, appeared in the movies such as ‘Rock Around the Clock’ and ‘Don’t Knock the Rock’. His career was destroyed by the payola scandal that hit the broadcasting industry in the early 60’s.

  1. Mr.Rock n Roll,although everybody was doing it ,Freed was destroyed by it! Some DJs are still accepting cash to spin a certain disc!
