Leon Biju

February 2, 1880, Bucharest – February 16, 1970

Leon Alexandru Biju was a Romanian painter, lithographer, artist and craftsman, former political prisoner under the communist regime in Romania.

He attended the National School of Fine Arts (1899 – 1906). During studies he has met Constantin Brancusi, which was befriended and they will meet later in his life.

Leon Biju organized his first solo exhibition in 1927 in Art House hall in Bucharest, where he exhibited 80 paintings. Even the Queen Mary bought several works.

Biju traveled to Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Bulgaria and exhibited works from his travels.

After the end of the Second World War, labeled the new Communist regime in Romania as legionnaire was completely marginalized, Leon Biju being avoided by all and leading a life anonymously.
