February 20th Memoriam Spotlight: Richard Matheson is the epitome of the „First, there is the word” rule of movie and television production. Imaginative stories with a focus on strong characters, Matheson’s stories were a favorite among producers and directors. His first screenplay was for the classic „Incredible Shrinking Man” (1957), with many for producer Roger Corman – who said Matheson’s work rarely needed any tweaking – and many of the best episodes of „The Twlight Zone”, „Star Trek”, and other series were written by Roger. His original story „I Am Legend” has been made into movies numerous times, and if you have a favorite movie or television episode there is a very good chance Richard Matheson was behind it.
