February 23rd Memoriam Spotlight: Norman Taurog directed several movies with Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin and also directed most of Elvis Presley’s features – tasks which must have been akin to herding cats. He was also known as one of the best directors of children, which may have helped him deal with the previous. Not as well-known as the director he shares a Birthday with, Victor Fleming, but Taurog also had a hand in directing „The Wizard Of Oz” (1939). At the age of 32, he became the youngest person to win the Best Director Academy Award for „Skippy” (1931) which starred his nephew Jackie Cooper.
