The crash of Polish presidential aircraft near Smolensk

A Tu-154 of the Police Air Force crashes while landing at military airport Severny in Smolensk Oblast, Russia; 96 persons on board are killed. Pilot error is seen as a possible cause of the crash. The plane was flying from Warsaw to mark the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre. The plane carried Polish president Lech Kaczyński, his wife, the army chief, the central bank governor, MPs, leading historians, and many top Polish government officials to their deaths.
