#DYK Jessie Redmon Fauset was a literary editor for the NAACP’s magazine, The Crisis, in the 1920s. Born in 1882, Fauset attended Philadelphia High School, and was one of only a few African American students. Fauset then attended Cornell University and graduated in 1905. Next Fauset worked as a teacher, while submitting her writing to The Crisis. Fauset was hired by W.E.B. Du Bois to work as the magazine’s literary editor in 1919 and she held the position until 1926. Fauset was able to help many Harlem Renaissance writers while at The Crisis. Fauset also wrote four of her own novels. (Photo Credit: Library of Congress) #womenshistory #blackhistorymonth
