Anastacia Lyn Newkirk is an American singer-songwriter, producer and former dancer. Known for her powerful mezzo-soprano voice and her small stature of 1,57 m, she has been dubbed „the little lady with the big voice„.

Her father Robert Newkirk (of German descent) was a club-singer and her mother Diane Hurley (of Irish descent) an actress on Broadway.

Anastacia started her career in 1983 as a dancer for hire. Her first claim to fame was as a professional dancer, making regular appearances on Club MTV. She appeared in two videos for American hip hop trio Salt-n-PepaGet Up Everybody (Get Up) and Twist and Shout.

In 1990, she started her musical career as a backing vocalist on pop star Tiffany’s New Inside album, she featured in music video My Fallen Angel of Dominican singer/actor Coro and in 1992 she gained her first break as a solo singer on BET’s ComicView, singing Oleta Adams’ Get Here

Her debut album, Not That Kind was released in 2000 and reached the Top 10 in several countries, making her an icon in Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Although the following albums Freak of Nature (2001), Anastacia (2004) and Pieces of a Dream (2005) were successful as well, she hasn’t made as big an impact in the US.

Anastacia won an MTV Europe Music Award for „Best Pop” (2001), a World Music Award for „Best New Artist” (2001) and two ECHO Awards for „Best International Newcomer” (2001) and „Best International Female Singer” (2005). Her song Boom became the official song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan (2002).
