Robin Williams a fost un comic și actor american; a făcut comedie pe scenă și a jucat în numeroase filme începând cu 1980.

Williams a fost onorat în 1998 cu Premiul Oscar pentru cel mai bun actor în rol secundar pentru rolul din Good Will Hunting. A mai fost nominalizat la Premiul Oscar pentru cel mai bun actor în 1988, cu rolul interpretat în Bună dimineața, Vietnam!, în 1990 pentru rolul din Cercul poeților dispăruți și în 1992 pentru cel din Regele pescar.

A câștigat și șase premii Globul de Aur, două premii Screen Actors Guild și patru premii Grammy.

Robin McLaurin Williams was an American comedian and actor known for his manic stand-up routines and his diverse film performances. Williams early learned to use humour to entertain classmates and was a fan of comedian Jonathan Winters. He began appearing in comedy clubs in the early 1970s in California.

By the mid-1970s Williams was guest starring on several television shows, including The Richard Pryor Show and Laugh-In and in his own show, Mork & Mindy (1978–82).

He appeared in many movies: Popeye (1980), The World According to Garp (1982), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987, Academy Award nomination), Dead Poets Society (1989, Academy Award nomination), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), the animated feature Aladdin (1992), The Fisher King (1991, Academy Award nomination), Good Will Hunting (1997, Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor), Patch Adams (1998), One Hour Photo (2002), etc.

He also received two Primetime Emmy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four Grammy Awards throughout his career.

Williams was active with a number of charities, including Comic Relief and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, an organization founded by the late Superman star that is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury. Through his work with the United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO), he was also a frequent performer for American troops stationed abroad.
